Piet Mondrian Stained Glass

This week we have had a focus on our art to make our classrooms look vibrant and inviting. We were introduced to the artist Piet Mondrian. After looking at some of his work we created our own art inspired by the artist. Here are some of our pieces of art.

We call it 'Piet Mondrian Stained Glass'.
We used laminating pouches, black strips of card and cellophane.

Our artwork was up and ready for judging.
Congratulations to Jessica who received Reserve Supreme Champion.
Miss Ogle ran the Balloon Darts for the Mini Gala in the afternoon. Because of the wet weather all of our gala events were set up inside our classrooms.
Aila and Levi received Highly Commended Awards for their indoor exhibits.

Here is a collection of photos that Mr Lodge put together of photos taken on the day. Thanks to Arnita and Brydee for their great photography skills.

Reach for the Stars - Matariki Art and Writing

Last term we looked at stories based on Matariki. Here is our new wall display with our hands and our writing. The class had to work with a partner to write a sentence using a language feature we have learnt throughout the year. Some students wrote a sentence using alliteration, personification or a simile.

First Day for 2015

We enjoyed our first day back at school today.
It was a very hot day but we managed to keep cool and begin some awesome work.
Over the next few days you will see some work going up on our classroom walls.
Here are some photos of what we got up to today:

We worked in groups to discuss setting up our class expectations.

For maths we are learning all about ourselves and others. Today we drew around our hands. We discussed which finger was longest, how long our thumbs were and if our palm is longer than our longest finger.

In the afternoon we were introduced to Mandala Artwork. Below are some examples of our Mandala Art work that we are working on. Keep a look out for our finished products.
